2020 Nissan Rogue vs. 2020 Mazda CX-5 Pre-Owned SUV comparison

The Nissan Rogue is a five-passenger SUV that is widely praised for its passenger and cargo volume, efficient performance, safety and the fact that it offers incredible value. It is the most popular Nissan product in Canada and it is also one of the best-selling pre-owned SUVs on the market. Here, we take a look at pre-owned Nissan Rogue models and how they compare to another popular compact SUV on the used sport utility vehicle market, the Mazda CX-5. For the purposes of this comparison, we will look at the 2020 Nissan Rogue, although the information here would apply to other model years as well.

Efficient power in the 2020 Nissan Rogue

Pre-owned Nissan Rogue models include a base 2.5L four-cylinder engine that generates 170 hp, and the Mazda CX-5 also includes a 2.5L four-cylinder that produces similar power. However, as you'll soon learn, the CX-5 ranked near the back of the pack in 2020 for fuel efficiency. There is a turbocharged version of this engine, but it's only an option with the top trim level.

An Xtronic continuously variable transmission adds acceleration and efficient operation to the Rogue's drivetrain. The result is a fuel economy rating of 9.1/7.1 L/100 km. Both include AWD trims, and the Rogue also gains a slight fuel efficiency advantage. The CX-5's six-speed automatic transmission is less efficient and lacks the flexibility of a CVT.

More room to relax and pack for long trips in a pre-owned Nissan Rogue

The Rogue's slightly larger exterior dimensions offer a roomier vehicle and happier passengers. In the previous generation of the Rogue (offered until 2021) you get a total length of 4,630 mm, with the CX-5 dropping to 4,549 mm. The Rogue also makes a statement with a significantly larger cargo volume compared to the Mazda CX-5.

When you need maximum space behind the front seats, a used Rogue provides 1,982 liters versus 1,688 in the CX-5 in 2020. That's almost 300 liters more in the Rogue! Behind the second row, the Rogue's 1,113 liters shadows the 974 available in the CX-5. You'll also enjoy more headroom and legroom up front in the Rogue.

A used Nissan Rogue also has several features you won't find in the CX-5, especially in 2020 models. The 360-degree camera expands your field of vision for added safety. This completes a full range of active and passive safety features. A hands-free tailgate, rearview mirror memory and remote engine start are also exclusive to the Rogue.
