Westwind Honda, McDonald Nissan and McDonald Chevrolet Buick GMC are investing in the future of cardiac care in southern Alberta with a $100,000 commitment to the Chinook Regional Hospital Foundation’s Bringing Hearts Home campaign.
The gift will help advance cardiac care facilities and equipment, bringing more specialized cardiac services closer to home for patients and families throughout southern Alberta.
The gift comes from a local ownership group with deep roots in southern Alberta. Paul and Gord McDonald own McDonald Nissan and McDonald Chevrolet Buick GMC, and are partners with Greg Flom in Westwind Honda. The McDonald family’s roots in the region extend back generations, including a family automotive history that began in Taber more than 80 years ago. Today, that connection continues through their businesses and ongoing involvement in the communities they serve.
Paul McDonald’s connection to local health care also includes previous service on the Chinook Regional Hospital Foundation Board of Directors.
“Southern Alberta has supported our family and our businesses for generations, and giving back to the communities that have supported us has always been important,” said Paul McDonald. “Having served on the Foundation Board, I’ve seen the difference philanthropy can make in health care. Bringing Hearts Home is an opportunity to give back and help strengthen cardiac care for families across our region.”
That commitment is shared by Greg Flom, Dealer Principal of Westwind Honda, which recently opened a new facility in Lethbridge.
“Our new facility represents our commitment to being part of this community for the long term,” said Flom. “Supporting Bringing Hearts Home is another way we can invest in the future of southern Alberta and help make a difference for families across the region.”
The announcement builds on significant momentum for Bringing Hearts Home. At a partnership celebration in September, the Chinook Regional Hospital Foundation recognized the extraordinary community support that has carried the campaign beyond its original $30-million goal. More than $33 million has now been committed in support of bringing advanced cardiac care closer to home.
The community campaign is part of a much larger transformation of cardiac and critical care in southern Alberta. The Government of Alberta has committed $59 million over three years to advance planning for the South Zone Cardiac and Intensive Care Expansion, an investment currently estimated at approximately $445 million. Planning continues to move forward, with construction anticipated to begin in fall 2027.
“The momentum behind Bringing Hearts Home continues because businesses, families and individuals across our region believe in what is possible for health care in southern Alberta,” said Crystal Elliott, CEO of the Chinook Regional Hospital Foundation. “We’re grateful for this generous commitment and for the leadership Paul, Gord and Greg continue to demonstrate in supporting the communities they serve.”
The planned expansion will strengthen cardiac and critical care services across southern Alberta and represents an important step toward providing patients and families with greater access to specialized cardiac care closer to home.
The Chinook Regional Hospital Foundation extends its sincere thanks to the three dealerships for their generosity and continued commitment to southern Alberta.
